Last weekend, we participated in (well, really went and took pictures) at a yearly Limpieza de Costas or beach cleanup sponsored internationally by Ocean Conservancy. There were over 3,000 members of our church out working wearing bright yellow Mormon Helping Hands vests. They had been furnished with rubber gloves, black trash bags, some screens, rakes, shovels, and a scale or two to weigh the trash. All in all, we cleaned up all over the country, including some river banks, around 30 tons of trash, if you can believe it! And that was just our group. There were lots of teenagers, but also whole families out working. It was such a fun day.

ReplyDeleteWe could find that much trash just on our block here in Xi'an, China. But we do have street sweepers with 8 ft long brooms sweeping the trash into the gutters (which are often overflowing)
